Senior Homestead Exemption  (35 ILCS 200/15-170)

To Qualify:


Property must be owner-occupied by senior citizen during the year or unoccupied but owned by a senior citizen who has moved into a nursing home during the year.


Must be 65 years or older during the assessment year.


Property must be a residential single family home, town home, or condominium.



Documents Needed:


Recorded Property Deed or Title Insurance Policy.



Proof of Age: Driver's License or State I.D. or Passport or Birth Certificate or Baptismal Certificate showing DOB.



Exemption application signed by senior citizen and notarized by a notary public. The application is available at our office, the DuPage County Supervisor of Assessments office or their website –





Please bring the required documents into our office. We will photocopy all documents and notarize your signature.





The Senior Homestead Exemption beginning in 2023 provides an annual exemption of $8,000 from the assessed value of the property. The exemption amount will be pro-rated if the senior moves into the home during the year.
